It was August of 2014 when we stumbled across this diamond in the rough. We were not looking to move but I have always had a fondness for "old houses" and especially antebellum homes. The giant columns caught my eye right away and since it was just outside of town we were even more attracted.

What we found was a sweet couple with big dreams for restoring the Robinson Plantation but circumstance would not allow them to fulfill their dream.

The photo that highlights this blog was several years old. The present condition of the property was demanding some serious attention. It was hard for most  to see past the "work" involved and envision what "could be".

The dirt dobbers, spiders and vegetation has taken over the house (literally). Task one was cleaning the grounds around the house so that workers could have access and limited exposure to "creatures"! Here are a few more pics of the over-growth. You can barely see the tin roof of the old garage.

And the beautiful scalloped picket fence that envelopes a very large backyard is almost hidden.

There are so many beautiful 100 year old oaks in need of grooming all around the house.

We have made tremendous progress since these photos were taken two months ago.  Landscaping will be the last step in this process but things look tremendously different already. I will be posting pictures of the interior next so check back later.

  1. Can't wait to see the progress. Something that I would LOVE to do. But I'm afraid that hubby and I would end in D-I-V-O-R-C-E! He's not a handyman and doesn't see my visions. LOL. So I'll have to watch through your eyes. Hope you invite us out when you are done. --Patricia Catanese Oakes
